This article explains how to use Crop Zones to assign multiple crops to different subfield areas within a single field and year. Completing this step is required before recording field records or allocating costs to fields.
If you do not see the harvest product you need to assign to a field, please make sure you have it added it to your Crops by following the steps outline in the KB article regarding Crops and Harvest Product Management.
1. Using the navigation menu on the left of your screen, open the Resources menu and then select Farms/Fields.
2. Click on the three dots located at the very top row (grower name) and select Manage Crop Years.
3. Confirm the Year is correct before assigning a Harvest Product to any field.
4. Enable editing by toggling on the Edit button in the top right corner.
5. Click on the Copy icon for the field you want to create a split crop for. This will add a new row allowing you to assign a split crop to the field.
6. Click on the Harvest Products Box for the new split crop and select a second crop from your drop down list to assign the split crop to the field.
7. Change the Reporting Area for each Harvest Product to represent the crop area you plan on planting for each Harvest Product. (In this example we are changing the original total area from 23.7 acres to have Corn in 13.7 acres and Soybeans in 10.0 acres of this one field).
8. Turn on the In Production buttons for the new Harvest Product that was created so both crops will have John Deere or Climate FV data imported into the import queue.
The Crop Zone(s) with In Production enabled will have data from your John Deere Operations Center or Climate FieldView integrations applied to it.
When multiple Crop Zones are marked as In Production for the same field, only one record will appear in your Import Queue and you will need to select the appropriate crop zone.
Example 1: Operations for an entire field will come into the Import Queue as ONE record that will need to be adjusted for one part of the split field and a new field record will need to be created for the other part of the split field area.
Example 2: Operations that occur on one side of a split field area and then a week later the other side of a split field receives an operation, you will see TWO records in the Import Queue. If similar operations in the same field occur within 1 week, the Import Queue will show only one operation.
9. After you have reviewed the information, click the Save button to finish.
