How do I add a Custom Input?

Overview

Setting up your database of Inputs is one of the first steps to do as a Traction Enterprise customer.  These inputs are the driving forces behind Input Application and Planting Tasks for your operation.  Traction Enterprise has a extensive database of Inputs but if you are do not see what you are looking for, you are able to create a Custom Input.

This article will go over all the details for creating a custom input.

Requirements

To create a custom input you will need to know all the details for that given input including:

  • Crop Category, Input Name, & Manufacturer
  • State/Density, Inventory Unit, & Purchase Unit
  • Conversion rates (i.e. seeds per pounds, pounds per bag, etc)
  • Application Rate
  • For seed inputs, GDU to Black Layer & Relative Maturity
  • Price Estimate

Process

To create a custom input:

  1. Navigate to Setup>Inputs
  2. Choose the input category tab you wish to add - Seeds, Chemicals, or Fertilizer.
  3. Click Add in the top right and start typing the name of your new input in the search bar.
  4. After you have entered characters in the search bar, you will notice the Add Custom popup.
  5. Click the Add Custom button.

  6. When the Add dialog box opens, you will enter in the following information:
    • Attributes Tab:
      • Name: Is the original name that was assigned to the input during Setup
      • Preferred Name: This is the Input Name that will be displayed throughout Traction Enterprise
      • Type: Select the type of input (seed, fertilizer, or chemical)
      • Category: Select the category of seed, fertilizer or chemical (i.e. Fungicide)
      • Manufacturer: If you don't know the manufacturer, select Unknown
    • Units Tab:
      • State: Choose Liquid or Dry (after State has been set, it cannot be changed).
      • Density: Once density is set, it cannot be changed as well.
      • Enable Mass, Volume, or Other Conversions

    • Defaults Tab:
      • Purchase Unit: Used to display purchasing quantities and your price estimates
      • Inventory Unit: Used to display total input quantities in inventory and in reports through Traction Enterprise - Input Usage Analyzer, Input Usage Summary, or Input Usage by Task
      • Application Rate:  The rate you plan to apply (often a per acre amount)
      • GDU to Black Layer:  See Manufacturer website for best result (seed inputs only)
      • Relative Maturity: Enter the Input's relative maturity (seed inputs only)

    • Prices Tab:
      • This tab allows you to set an input price estimate for several years
